Raymond Gaufredi : ウィキペディア英語版
Raymond de Gaufredi
Raymond de Gaufredi (died 1310) was Minister General of the Francican Order from 1289 to 1285.
==Life==
Raymond de Gaufredi was born in Marseille.
A sympathizer with the Franciscan Spirituals, he became Minister General of the Order of Friars Minor in 1289. On the death of Pope Nicholas IV in 1292, he felt able to relax the sanctions against the Spirituals. He was responsible in particular for the release from prison of Roger Bacon.〔(TheHistoryNet | Science & Engineering | Roger Bacon )〕 Angelo da Clareno and some of his followers were released from confinement and sent as missionaries to Armenia in order to avoid persecution from the friars in the March of Ancona. He nominated Pierre Jean Olivi for a teaching position at the University of Montpellier.〔(): "... promotion by the Minister General, Friar Matthew of Acquasparta, and Friar Raymond Gaufredi to the position of Lector of Theology, first (1287) in the general School of S. Croce in Florence and then (1289) in that of Montpellier."〕
Gaufredi was also a supporter of the Franciscan tertiary Ramón Llull,〔(), ().〕 and in 1290 gave him a letter of recommendation permitting Llull to teach in Italian monasteries. He was deposed as Minister General by Pope Boniface VIII, in 1295.〔(): "Raimondo even ventured to revise the general constitutions at the General Chapter of Paris in 1292, whereupon, having refused the Bishopric of Padua offered him by Boniface VIII, he was compelled by the pope to resign his office."〕
Some alchemical writings have been attributed to him.
